In the winter, it becomes more firm upon first laying down but softens up as your body temp warms it up.
In the summer, it is a bit softer and slightly less firm.but not too much. We have noticed as the seasons change from summer to winter that the topper also changes slightly. We live in a warm climate and have no issues at all with this topper holding body heat and getting too hot. As you lay down, the topper slowly envelops you and conforms to your shape and supports you in all the right spots, making for a very comfortable night of sleep.
